Earth Must Die to przygodówka
point-and-click, w której gracz wciela się w rolę VValaka (przez dwa „V”) –
władcy imperium Tyrythiańskiego, które trzyma pod butem większą część planet w
kosmosie. Niestety imperium potrzebuje
podbijać kolejne planety, by móc pozyskiwać z nich niezbędne surowce. VValak
chce podbić i zniszczyć Ziemię. I tu zaczyna się bardzo nietuzinkowa przygoda.
Earth Must Die jest komedią dla
dorosłych – to satyryczny obraz zarówno wypaczeń totalitaryzmu, jak i możliwych
zagrożeń związanych z wynaturzeniem demokracji. Trzeba zaznaczyć, że humor w
grze jest przeznaczony dla dorosłego gracza Dość częste są dowcipy o
charakterze seksualnym, a gra ma kilka krwawych scen. Sympatycy South Park czy Family
Guy powinni być zadowoleni…
VValakowi od dzieciństwa towarzyszy nieodłączna Milkey, latający
robot-niania w kształcie butelki pełnej mleka. VValak i Milkey to niesamowicie ciekawe i zgrane duo – on
jest przebiegłym manipulatorem o wielgachnym ego, ona – wygadaną towarzyszką,
która nieraz dyskretnie „robi sobie jaja” z VValaka. Z tą niezwykłą parą
naprawdę można się zżyć podczas rozgrywki.
Gra to point-and-click z kilkoma ciekawumi nowinkami, dotyczącymi
sposobu rozgrywki . Co jest nietypowe,
to że wchodzimy w interakcje z otoczeniem za pomocą myszy, a chodzimy za pomocą
klawiszy klawiatury, Trochę trzeba się
do tego podwójnego sterowania przyzwyczaić, ale jest ono uzasadnione, bo kilka
zagadek wymaga ustawienia VValaka w konkretnym miejscu. VValak jako imperator nie zniża się do
zbierania i używania przedmiotów samemu (w grze nie ma ekwipunku). Może natomiast
wydawać polecenia Milkey i innym postaciom, aby pełniły jego wolę. Kliknięcie
na danej postaci lub obielcie otwiera menu interakcji – możemy obejrzeć daną
postać czy obiekt, porozmawiać z konkretną postacią lub wydać jej polecenie,
żeby weszła w interakcję z czymś (lub kimś) z otoczenia. Podczas rozmowy mamy
do wyboru kilka opcji dialogowych. Możemy decydować czy VValak ma być kulturalny
czy arogancki i pompatyczny. Jednak wybór stylu wypowiedzi nie ma większego
wpływu na finalny przebieg rozgrywki.
Zagadki z początku nie są zbyt skomplikowane, choć w dalszej części
gry znajduje się kilka wyzwań bardziej złożonych i trudniejszych. Warto dodać,
że Milkey prowadzi Milkeypedię, czyli wciąż uaktualnianą bazę wiedzy o napotkanych
miejscach i postaciach. Zerknięcie do Milkeypedii nieraz okaże się potrzebne,
by rozwiązać napotkaną zagadkę. Główna radość gry płynie z odkrywania, jak
twórcy poprowadzą przygodę, a trzeba przyznać, że zwariowanych, zakręconych pomysłów
fabularnych w grze jest bezliku!
Na pochwałę zasługuje też ładna rysunkowa grafika i dość częste,
dobrze zrealizowane, animowane przerywniki. Gra jest w pełni udźwiękowiona po
angielsku. Aktorzy głosowi – zwłaszcza ci podkładający głosy pod VValaka i
Milkey – wygłaszają swoje dialogi z olbrzymią dawką talentu i humoru. Natomiast
muzyka, jeśli się pojawia, jest poprawna
i nie rozprasza, choć też, według mnie, bardzo się nie wyróżnia… Całość gry
sprawia, że ma się wrażenie oglądania starannie wykonanej kreskówki dla
dorosłych.
Podsumowując, Earth Must Die jest pomysłową i ciekawą satyrą
na totalitaryzm i demokrację. Gra ma średnią długość (około 5-8 godzin
rozgrywki), ale niesamowite pomysły fabularne twórców i częste zwroty akcji
sprawiają, że gra się z przyjemnością i zainteresowaniem. Nie każdemu może
przypaść do gustu dość częsty humor seksualny, czy kilka krwawych scen – trzeba
wziąć na to poprawkę. Sumarycznie jednak szczerze polecam Earth Must Die
każdemu sympatykowi przygodówek! Ja naprawdę zżyłem się z VValakiem i Milkey
podczas ich zwariowanych, kosmicznych przygód!

Earth Must Die is a point-and-click adventure game in which the player takes on the
role of VValak (with two "Vs") – the ruler of the Tyrythian Empire,
which controls many of the planets in space. Unfortunately, the empire needs to
conquer more planets to extract the necessary resources. VValak wants to
conquer and destroy Earth. And this is where a very unusual adventure begins.
Earth Must Die is a comedy for adults – it satirizes both the perversions of
totalitarianism as well as the possible threats associated with the perversion
of democracy. It should be noted that the humour in the game is intended for an
adult audience. Sexual jokes are quite frequent, and the game contains several
gory scenes. Fans of South Park or Family Guy should be pleased…
Since childhood, VValak
has been accompanied by his inseparable Milkey, a flying robot nanny shaped
like a bottle full of milk. VValak and Milkey are an incredibly interesting and
well-matched duo – he's a cunning manipulator with a massive ego, she's a
talkative companion who often subtly ridicules VValak. This unusual pairing is
truly fun to watch.
The game is a
point-and-click game with several interesting gameplay innovations. What's
unusual is that you interact with the environment using the mouse and move
around using the keyboard. This dual control system takes some getting used to,
but it's justified, as several puzzles require VValak to be placed in a
specific location. As an emperor, VValak doesn't stoop to collecting and using
items himself (there's no inventory in the game). However, he can issue
commands to Milkey and other characters to fulfil his will. Clicking on a
character or object opens the interaction menu – you can examine a given
character or object, talk to a specific character, or command them to interact
with something (or someone) in the environment. During conversation, we have
several dialogue options to choose from. We can choose whether VValak should be
polite or arrogant and pompous. However, the choice of style of speech doesn't
significantly impact the final outcome of the game.
The puzzles aren't
overly complicated at first, though later in the game, there are a few more
complex and challenging challenges. It's worth noting that Milkey maintains the
Milkypedia, a constantly updated database of knowledge about the places and characters
encountered. A glance at the Milkypedia will often prove necessary to solve a
puzzle. The main joy of the game comes from discovering how the developers will
guide the adventure, and it must be admitted that the game offers countless
crazy, twisted plot ideas!
The attractive,
cartoon-like graphics as well as frequent, well-executed, animated cutscenes
are also worth praising. The game is fully voiced in English. The voice actors –
especially those voicing VValaka and Milkey – deliver their dialogues with a
tremendous amount of talent and humour. On the other hand, the music, when it
appears, is appropriate and not distracting, although in my opinion, it doesn't
really stand out. The entire game feels like watching a nicely crafted cartoon
for adults.
To sum it up, Earth
Must Die is an inventive and engaging satire of totalitarianism and
democracy. The game is of average length (around 5-8 hours of gameplay), but
the developers' incredible story ideas and frequent plot twists make it a joy
to play. The frequent sexual humour and a few gory scenes may not appeal to
everyone – this should be taken into account. Overall, however, I
wholeheartedly recommend Earth Must Die to any adventure game fan! I
truly connected with VValak and Milkey during their crazy space adventures!
